Help me pick the best business card design

So I took the time to design some business cards for myself, but I can’t decide which one to use. So i figure, “I have lots of friends (or at least I hope I do), lets have them tell me what they think”

Well, I’m back to tell you about another project i’m working on.

New Design

Altomec Endoscopy in Kalamazoo was looking for a site redesign and update, so I’m trying to help them out.

Endoscopy refers to the use of an endoscope to look inside of the body, usually for non-invasive surgeries or areas where line of sight isn’t possible. Being a medical company, I wanted to design them a professional looking website, that is still graphically pleasing.

In my design I decided to try to give the site some depth by taking an image of an endoscope and making it look like it is coming off the page at the visitor. To do this I didn’t want to use a regular drop shadow filter, because that just looks like a flat image with a shadow cast behind it. I wanted the shadow to look as though the light were coming from above the screen, so I took the image, copied it, put a color overlay on it to give it the all light gray, lower the opacity, and then finally skewed it to look as if the light were projecting the shadow below it, not behind it. To complete this, i also threw the tip of the endoscopes shadow on to the menu background.

While hopefully keeping this site looking very professional, I hope to also give it that catchy depth that so many people are using these days. My inspiration for this design come from the Circle Six Blog. So thanks to them!

Web design for Grand River Bait and Tackle

So I’m currently doing a bit of freelance for a small bait shop in Lansing, MI. This is a cool little bait shop that has everything you would ever need to fish.

The thing they don’t have is a website to get their name out there! Thats where I’m looking to help them out.

The carry a full line of tackle, and enough types of bait to guarantee that you will catch something. Another great part of this store is the people, its a personal feeling when you shop with them. If they don’t have something they will be happy to get it for you or find you an alternate. Want to know where to fish? They can tell you that. What to use? They’ll tell you that too.

Located in Old Town where small local business are thriving, they are little ma and pop shop that your grandpa would take you to early in the morning before a long day of fishing. I wanted to give them a personalized website, that didn’t make you think they were anything other than what they are: a good bait shop, that will serve you right, with a smile.

Using a cork-board theme, I designed the site with CSS to look like something you might find in a shop just like this one. The site will contain a flash slide shop of some fishing photos that happy customers have given them.

I’ll post more about the site when i have it completed.

Gotta’ start somewhere

Just going out into the world looking for work. As of now I’m locating myself in East Lansing, MI.

My Goal is to find a position on a creative team in a web design firm. With my skill set this shouldn’t be too hard, but competition is fierce. There are a lot of kids right out of school who are doing just what i do, and a lot of them are very good. So wish me luck.

Currently I’m looking for opportunities, but I am also offering freelance web design and development to small businesses and organizations, as well as to my fellow peers who need some help getting their face out there on the web.

anyway, that seems like a good picture of where I’m at right now. Check back soon, i will post work that i’ve done, and what’s going on in my life.
